Team Member Spotlight: Madison MacDonald—MarTech, Muscles, and Mascara

WhatConverts isn't just a product. It's a team. And without that team, we know we'd be nowhere.

That's why each month, we recognize one team member who's gone above and beyond in their role, and we share a little bit about who they are and what makes them so integral to WhatConverts. (They also get a bit of free swag from our merch store!)

This month, our spotlight employee is Madison MacDonald, Customer Success Manager.

Tell us a little about your career path.

How did you first get into the SaaS or tech industry, or what led you to WhatConverts?

I first got my start in SaaS while studying Marketing at Florida State University. I was fortunate to land a paid internship with a start up called Stack Moxie, an automated testing platform founded by an FSU alum. That experience completely opened my eyes to Customer Success as a career path, particularly within technical marketing technology.

I started shadowing my mentor in client meetings and quickly immersed myself in the MarTech ecosystem, gaining hands-on exposure to platforms like HubSpot and Marketo. What fascinated me most was all the technical complexity working behind the scenes. In college, you learn traditional marketing frameworks, but applying tech in the real world is a whole other ball game. Seeing how exponentially marketing technology is evolving—and how crucial technical CSMs are in bridging that gap for clients—is ultimately what led me to WhatConverts.

What do you enjoy most about your role at WhatConverts?

Is there something unique about working on our team that you find exciting?

There are two things I enjoy most about my role at WhatConverts.

First, I love taking complex, technical marketing solutions and breaking them down so they're easy for clients to digest. Hearing a client say, 'Oh wow, when you explain it that way, it makes so much sense!' is always such a rewarding feeling. I live for those 'aha' moments when clarity replaces confusion.

Second, I love problem-solving and coming up with creative, custom workarounds that fit a client's specific business needs. Whether that's designing a tailored lead-qualification workflow using Lead Intelligence or building out unique custom reports, I love thinking outside the box. When a client says, 'I had no idea the platform could solve that for us!'—that’s what makes this job so exciting to me.

What’s one project or achievement at WhatConverts that you’re particularly proud of?

This could be a specific individual contribution, a customer success story, or a team accomplishment.

One project I’m particularly proud of is my ongoing work with Tammy from Spotlight Media. Together, we built a structured spreadsheet-audit system to systematically build out and manage her multi-client accounts.

We are already on our second full audit iteration, taking each client profile through WhatConverts' 6-step setup process. By diving deep into each profile, we ensure no stone is left unturned—advancing her tracking from basic setups to tailored Lead Intelligence and Ask AI rules, optimizing Google Ads conversion triggers for qualified leads, and establishing actionable ROI reporting. Seeing her accounts evolve from raw tracking to an advanced, fully automated lead-intelligence engine has been incredibly rewarding.

How do you like to unwind after a busy day in the world of SaaS?

Tell us what you like to do, and how you maintain work-life balance.

To unwind after a busy day in SaaS, I love staying active—specifically through weightlifting. For me, lifting is almost a form of active meditation. It forces me to quiet my mind, step away from screens, and focus purely on the present moment and the incremental process of each set. I really thrive on that structure and routine; it’s a physical and mental reset, and there’s nothing quite like slowly watching your hard work pay off over time.

When it’s time to completely relax, I’m a huge fan of movies, TV shows, and anime. I gravitate toward psychological thrillers, sci-fi, and horror—anything with deep plots, mind-bending twists, and high stakes. I also genuinely love anime because the storytelling is unmatched; it’s some of the most heartfelt, intense, and plot-driven cinema out there.

What’s a fun fact about you that your colleagues might not know?

It can be anything—from an interesting fact, to a hidden talent, to quirky hobbies.

A fun fact that most of my colleagues might not know is that I’m getting married this November!

My fiancé and I met at Florida State while in the MBA program together. We started out in the same study group, and since he was the Vice President of our class, he hosted tailgates where we became great friends. Eventually, he asked me out on our first date to get Indian food—butter chicken is still a favorite for both of us!

We’re getting married in my hometown of Miami, and right now we’re taking dance lessons for our first dance, which has been such a blast!

If you could instantly learn one skill (personal or professional), what would it be?

Perhaps you want to code like a pro, master the art of PPC, or pick up a non-work-related hobby?

I would love to instantly learn music production! Being able to craft original beats, arrange instrumentation, and write songs from scratch would be amazing.

I already love to sing, so having the technical skills to produce my own tracks—comping my own vocals, layering harmonies, and sound-designing beats that truly resonate with me—would be such a fun creative outlet, even just as a hobby. It would be incredible to take a musical idea from my head and bring it to life completely on my own.

What’s something you’re currently obsessed with?

This can be work-related (like a tool or trend) or something personal (foods, pets, places, TV shows - anything!).

On the music side, I’m currently obsessed with Ariana Grande’s album Petal. I’m a die-hard Ariana fan—I’ve been following her ever since 'The Way' feat. Mac Miller came out (it was literally my ringtone freshman year of high school!). I’m endlessly fascinated by her vocal control and production. Her music has so many layers that every time I listen, I catch a new harmony or backing vocal. With Petal specifically, I love that she leaned into a darker aesthetic, using horror elements in her music videos to explore her relationship with media scrutiny.

On a personal note, I’m obsessed with my cat, Doja (and yes, she’s named after Doja Cat—I clearly love pop culture!). We moved into a new house about three months ago, and she recently discovered the garage. It has officially become her hardcore parkour training arena, and she spends her days balancing on the roof beams and getting as high up as possible!

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received, professionally or personally?

How has this advice helped shape your life or your career?

The best piece of advice I’ve ever received is simply: 'This is only one part of your life.'

That reminder has taught me the power of 'zooming out' during challenging moments. It reminds me that difficult situations are both temporary and never the sole definition of who I am or where I'm going.

Perspective gives me the resilience to push through tough obstacles—whether in my personal life or my career—knowing I’ll come out on the other side wiser and stronger. Once I’ve zoomed out to see the bigger picture, I can zoom back in, take things one step at a time, and tackle the task at hand with focus and calm.

You’re given the chance to win $5 million, but you have to beat 100 people at a single task. You can choose the task—what would it be and why do you think you’d win?

(This is a great opportunity to highlight a unique skill, or stead-fast know-how!)

A timed makeup challenge! I’m exceptionally skilled at doing makeup and can pull together a full, flawless look at lightning speed.

I grew up doing makeup for my sister and her friends for high school events like homecoming and prom, which taught me how to work fast under pressure on all different face shapes and skin types. Have you ever watched early seasons of America’s Next Top Model? They used to do timed makeup challenges—like creating a full day-to-night look in under 15 minutes. If that were the $5 million challenge, I’d win without a doubt!
