WhatConverts isn't just a product—it's a team. And without that team, we know we'd be nowhere.
That's why each month, we recognize one team member who's gone above and beyond in their role, and we share a little bit about who they are and what makes them so integral to WhatConverts. (They also get a bit of free swag from our merch store!)
This month, our spotlight employee is Erik Pelayo, Senior Customer Success Manager.
Tell us a little about your career path.
How did you first get into the SaaS or tech industry, or what led you to WhatConverts?
My career in SaaS started at Zillow, where I met someone in leadership who recognized my salesmanship. From there, I realized I wanted to transition from the digital real estate space into marketing. One thing I’ve learned is that without marketing, sales really struggle, so it felt like a natural shift to help businesses see the full value of what we do at WhatConverts.
What do you enjoy most about your role at WhatConverts?
Is there something unique about working on our team that you find exciting?
What I love most is working with customers who see the value in what we do—and helping them uncover features they didn’t even know existed. Nothing excites me more than hearing a customer say, “I didn’t know that WhatConverts could do that!” I also feel privileged to work with such an amazing Customer Success team. Even though some are newer to the product, the way we collaborate to make things happen is inspiring.
What’s one project or achievement at WhatConverts that you’re particularly proud of?
This could be a specific individual contribution, a customer success story, or a team accomplishment.
One achievement I’m especially proud of is helping a client see the true value of qualifying their leads. He was so confident in the results that he told his own client he wouldn’t charge for services if enriching lead data didn’t increase ROI—and it did. Seeing the tangible impact of our work and the trust it builds is incredibly rewarding.
How do you like to unwind after a busy day in the world of SaaS?
Tell us what you like to do, and how you maintain work-life balance.
During the week, I like getting outside, working on my property, and enjoying nature. I also stick to a consistent workout routine—if my mind has been exhausted all day, my body needs to match it so I don’t crash.
What’s a fun fact about you that your colleagues might not know?
It can be anything—from an interesting fact, to a hidden talent, to quirky hobbies.
Most people don’t know that I’ve swapped desert boots for scuba fins and pilot wings. I spent six years in the Army, including a deployment to Iraq, and I’m also a certified scuba diver and sport pilot. I’ve also competed in long-distance shooting competitions, with my longest shot being one mile!
If you could instantly learn one skill (personal or professional), what would it be?
Perhaps you want to code like a pro, master the art of PPC, or pick up a non-work-related hobby?
If I could instantly learn one skill, it would be coding for AI. I’m fascinated by how AI can transform industries, and being able to build and understand it firsthand would be incredible.
What’s something you’re currently obsessed with?
This can be work-related (like a tool or trend) or something personal (foods, pets, places, TV shows - anything!).
Lately, I’ve been obsessed with working on my property with my tractor. Maybe I was a farmer in a past life—I just love being outside and getting hands-on with projects. There’s nothing better than working on something tangible and seeing the results of your effort.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received, professionally or personally?
How has this advice helped shape your life or your career?
“Never give up; find a solution, not an excuse.” This advice has shaped both my career and personal life. It’s taught me to approach challenges proactively, focus on solutions instead of obstacles, and keep growing no matter the circumstances.
You’re given the chance to win $5 million, but you have to beat 100 people at a single task. You can choose the task—what would it be and why do you think you’d win?
(This is a great opportunity to highlight a unique skill, or stead-fast know-how!)
I’d pick a “centerfire biathlon” competition. My Army background taught me how to stay calm under pressure, think quickly on my feet, and make smart decisions while moving fast. Combined with physical training and mental toughness, I have a unique edge in competitions that test speed, strategy, and endurance.
