WhatConverts isn't just a product—it's a team. And without that team, we know we'd be nowhere.
That's why each month, we recognize one team member who's gone above and beyond in their role, and we share a little bit about who they are and what makes them so integral to WhatConverts. (They also get a bit of free swag from our merch store!)
This month, our spotlight employee is Matt L, Technical Support Engineer.
Tell us a little about your career path.
How did you first get into the SaaS or tech industry, or what led you to WhatConverts?
As a kid, my dad was an IT Director, and I was fascinated by the gadgets he'd bring home. It wasn't long before that fascination became a hands-on hobby, building PCs with my dad and brother to dive into the world of gaming. It was that early exposure, seeing how technology could be both a tool and a source of fun, that set the foundation for my career.
What do you enjoy most about your role at WhatConverts?
Is there something unique about working on our team that you find exciting?
What I enjoy most is the culture; everyone I’ve worked with has been exceptional. The support team in particular, has been incredibly helpful in getting me up to speed, and it’s clear that collaboration is a core value here. What excites me most is knowing how much more there is to learn and the opportunity to continue growing my skill set within such a strong team environment.
What’s one project or achievement at WhatConverts that you’re particularly proud of?
This could be a specific individual contribution, a customer success story, or a team accomplishment.
I'm proud of getting comfortable with our Google Ads troubleshooting. It can be tricky, but thanks to some great guidance from the team, I feel like I have a strong handle on it now. I've gone from being hesitant to actively welcoming those challenges, which has been a very rewarding process.
How do you like to unwind after a busy day in the world of SaaS?
Tell us what you like to do, and how you maintain work-life balance.
As soon as I sign off for the day, I’m usually heading straight to the gym. It’s a daily ritual that helps me reset both mentally and physically. My fiancé and I both use that time to decompress, stay consistent with our goals, and create a clear separation between work and everything else. It’s our version of hitting the reset button.
What’s a fun fact about you that your colleagues might not know?
It can be anything—from an interesting fact, to a hidden talent, to quirky hobbies.
Some of the support team already know this, but I collect Dragon Ball Z cards, especially the character, Vegeta. I’ve recently started branching out into other characters and card types, but Vegeta’s still the centerpiece of my collection. I even have a display case in my office filled mostly with PSA 10s. It’s something my brother and I bonded over as kids, and it stuck with me ever since. It’s part hobby and part nostalgia.
If you could instantly learn one skill (personal or professional), what would it be?
Perhaps you want to code like a pro, master the art of PPC, or pick up a non-work-related hobby?
I would instantly learn to cook like a professional chef. It would be a huge advantage for dialing in my nutrition for the gym, and I'm sure my fiance wouldn't complain about me making amazing meals. It's a skill that pays off in multiple ways.
What’s something you’re currently obsessed with?
This can be work-related (like a tool or trend) or something personal (foods, pets, places, TV shows - anything!).
I've gotten sucked back into the world of Breaking Bad. I'm rewatching it because it's just that good, and it's one of those rare shows that absolutely holds up. Seeing it again knowing how it all ends is a totally different and amazing experience.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received, professionally or personally?
How has this advice helped shape your life or your career?
The concept of 'mind over matter' has always stuck with me. It’s that little voice that helps me push through when I feel like slacking, whether it's on a workout or a work project. It’s a simple but powerful reminder that our mental state has a huge impact on what we can achieve, and it has definitely helped me stay consistent and motivated.
You’re given the chance to win $5 million, but you have to beat 100 people at a single task. You can choose the task—what would it be and why do you think you’d win?
(This is a great opportunity to highlight a unique skill, or stead-fast know-how!)
The task would be IKEA assembly but instructions are forbidden. I have a zen-like mastery over flat-packed furniture; their confusing diagrams only cloud the mind. While everyone else is questioning their life choices over a handful of leftover screws, I'll be peacefully relaxing on my new POÄNG chair, $5 million richer.
