Simulate Bing Ads Clicks to Test Call Tracking Numbers
Before launching your Bing Ads campaigns with call tracking, you should test that your tracking numbers are correctly attributed to Bing Ads traffic. Simulating a Bing Ads click allows you to verify that WhatConverts is capturing campaign data and assigning the right tracking number to visitors.

Before You Begin
Make sure you have:
- WhatConverts Tracking Code installed on your website.
- Create a Dynamic Number Pool for All Traffic or Create a Dynamic Number Pool for Search Engines.
- Use a Private or Incognito window when testing UTM parameters.
Simulate a Bing Ads Click
To test that Bing Ads tracking is working correctly:
- Open a Private or Incognito Window.
- Add ?msclkid=test to the end of your website URL.
- Example: http://www.YourURL.com/?msclkid=test
- The msclkid parameter is a unique tracking parameter (Microsoft Click ID) that identifies Bing Ads traffic
- The &wc_clear=true parameter can also be added to clear your current WhatConverts cookie attribution, simulating a fresh visitor. This is only needed if you do not use an incognito or private window. Example: http://www.YourURL.com/?msclkid=test&wc_clear=true
- Optionally, add additional campaign parameters to test specific attribution:
- Example with campaign data: http://www.YourURL.com/?msclkid=test&wc_clear=true&utm_campaign=test-campaign&utm_content=ad-test&utm_term=keyword-test
- Open this URL in your browser to simulate the Bing Ads click.
- Once the page loads, note the tracking number displayed on your website.
- Place a test call to that tracking number from your phone.
Verify the Test Call in WhatConverts
After placing your test call:
- In your WhatConverts profile, access the Lead Manager.
- Verify the following attribution data:
- Source: Should show "bing"
- Medium: Should show "cpc"
- Campaign, Content, and Term: Should match the parameters you added to the test URL (if applicable)
If the attribution data is correct, your Bing Ads tracking is set up properly and ready for live campaigns.
Note: If you are using first-click attribution and make multiple test calls from the same number, the leads will show the attribution from your initial visit. You can switch to last-click attribution with the Elite Plan or select “View Lead” and check the Customer Journey for the tracked attribution.
