Pass Keyword Data from Google Ads into WhatConverts
To track which Google Ads keywords drive phone calls, forms, and chats, you need to configure ValueTrack parameters in your Google Ads account. This setup passes keyword data to WhatConverts so you can see exactly which search terms generate leads.
Before You Begin
Before setting up keyword tracking, ensure you have:
- An active Google Ads account with running campaigns
- WhatConverts tracking script installed on your website
- Admin access to your Google Ads account settings
How It Works
ValueTrack parameters are special codes Google Ads uses to automatically capture information about ad clicks. When someone clicks your ad, Google replaces these parameters with actual values like campaign ID and the keyword that triggered your ad. WhatConverts receives this data and displays it in your Lead Manager, giving you keyword-level visibility into which terms drive conversions. You can see all of the available UTM Parameters that Google offers here.
Set Up Keyword Tracking
To see which Google Ads keywords are generating leads in WhatConverts, follow the steps in Set Up ValueTrack and Auto-Tagging for Google Ads:
- Turn on auto-tagging in your Google Ads account.
- Add the ValueTrack tracking template at the account level.
- In Lead Manager, confirm the Keyword field is collecting data.
Verify Keyword Data
If keyword data isn't appearing, verify that:
- Auto-tagging is enabled
- The tracking template is correctly formatted
- You've allowed 24-48 hours for changes to take effect
