How to Create a Universal Analytics Property in Google Analytics

Note: By default, when creating a new property in Google Analytics, you'll set up a Google Analytics 4 (GA4) property.

We recommend creating and running a Universal Analytics (UA) property alongside your GA4 property to ensure you have a full picture of your traffic data.

Create a UA Property if you have already created a GA4 property

1Log into your Google Analytics account. Select "Admin" from the bottom left of your page. Under the Property section, select "Create Property".

2On the Create Property page, select "Show Advanced Options". Beside Create a Universal Analytics Property toggle the switch to On.

Enter your Website URL in the box where prompted and select the radio button for "Create a Universal Analytics Property Only".

Select "Next" and continue setting up the property with the settings of your choice. Click "Create".

3Install the Universal Analytics tracking code on your website as per Google Analytics' recommendations.

Create both UA and GA 4 Properties if you are setting up a new property

1Log into your Google Analytics account. Select "Admin" from the bottom left of your page. Under the Property section, select "Create Property".
